What was the Ellington building originally used for? Built in 1903 OR 1929 (depending on what reference material you use!)—the building housed the Little Lynchburg Theater and later served as the Hill City Lodge. And no, Duke Ellington, unfortunately, never played here! How do I purchase show tickets? Advance tickets are available at Blue Marlin Seafood (on Bedford Ave.), High Peak Sportswear (Main Street), Lynchburg Music (Fort Avenue), Outdoor Trails (Boonsboro Shopping Center), Stones n' Bones (Graves Mill Center, Forest) and on-site at the Ellington. You can also buy tickets online at our web site. All Ellington tickets ordered online will be waiting at the front desk on the night of show. You are also welcome to buy tickets at the door, night of show - but you run the risk of the show being sold out. All Ellington Friday tickets are sold at the door. Can I purchase tickets at the door with a credit card or a check? Yes, you can, please be prepared to show us a photo ID. I have already bought my ticket, but I now can’t come to the show, will you refund my money? No, we do not offer refunds. However you can certainly sell or give your ticket to someone else. If we are holding your ticket at the door, please call us and let us know who is picking up your ticket. Is a show really sold out? Many of our big name shows really sell out. We limit our seating to make the show more enjoyable for our patrons and to comply with the Fire Marshall. So purchase your tickets in advance and don’t be disappointed. Occasionally you might have to wait outside for the crowd to thin out to get inside for an Ellington Friday show for the same reason. Is there a dance floor? Dancing is encouraged and there is a clear area in front of the stage designated as our dance floor. Can I smoke at the Ellington? The Ellington is a non-smoking facility. You are welcome to smoke outside the building on our front porch or on the sidewalk. Can I drink at the Ellington? The Ellington has a cash bar for all shows' featuring a selection of beer, wine, mixed drinks and non-alcoholic beverages. Is there assigned seating? The Ellington is general admission, with all seating done on a first come, first served basis. Reserved seats are not available. You may see Reserved signs at times, but these are for the show sponsors. We try to keep these as limited as possible. Is there an age limit? The Ellington is all ages and everyone needs a ticket. Everyone under the age of eighteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and we ask that younger children be strictly supervised by their parents. Our dance floor is small and we like to keep as much of it available for adult dancers—therefore parents need to be especially diligent about children on the dance floor. Is there a dress code? There is no official dress code. Just be sure to wear shirts and shoes. One of the nice things about the Ellington is that you will be appropriately dressed whether you dress up or dress down. Where do I park? There is lighted parking on either side of Rivermont Avenue near the Ellington. There is also parking on D Street and in the parking lot behind Reggie Phelps Garage. Please be careful not to block any of our neighbors’ driveways. We have security patrolling the parking area after dark - but please remember that it is always smart to keep valuables out of sight inside your car. Are there any hotels or restaurants close to the Ellington? After the show if you still have the late night munchies, nothing beats The Texas Inn right down the Street at 421 Main Street. The Holiday Inn Select is also close by at 601 Main Street. Hey, why don't you guys get (insert your favorite band name here) to play? Our booking agents are always on the lookout for bands that are on tour. Many factors, including price determine what artists we can book. Please feel free make suggestions using the contact area of this website. My band is great, can we get a gig at the Ellington? Ellington Fridays is our showcase for local bands. Send an e-mail to fridays@theellington.org. But please keep in mind that if you are new to the area, and don't have a local following, it will be difficult to book your band. Seriously, you guys are probably great, but we have a limited amount of slots to fill and we have to hear you first. | |||||||||||||||||
