This might be our last show...
...nah, just kidding. It will however be a great show.
Before we get to that though, some really BIG NEWS! After years in the planning and months of constructing, our all new website is up and running. Having had very little to do with it I feel perfectly entitled to say it kicks butt. Go there (www.theellington.org) as soon as you finish reading this, knock around a bit, sign our guest book, tell your friends, and let us know how you like it and what you think we should do next.
Major props to board members Edwana Coleman and Noreen Turyn for their long hours and especially their graphical and literary skills. And special props to Gary Conner at our host WebUX.net for his hard work, technical expertise and much appreciated guidance.
Now, on to the show. Liz Mandville Greeson has been filling Chicago's best blues clubs for years and we've got her at the Ellington next Saturday (May 8th). With a four octave range, looks that make you glad you have eyes, and a handle on the blues that rivals the greats, Liz is one show you don't want to miss. For more on Liz see her page on our new website or visit her site: http://www.lizmandvillegreeson.com .
This show is sponsored by our good friends at Lynchburg Restoration and Sun Trust Bank. These sponsors, in fact all our sponsors, make it possible for us to keep bringing the best touring acts in the country to The Ellington. We hope you'll thank them for helping make Lynchburg a great place to live.
Talking about great, Chef Val Bolling has his ducks in a row for this show. Grab a kleenex and get ready to wipe the saliva from your chin after you read this:
Roast Pork Loin Topped with a Cranberry & Raisin Relish
Salmon Cakes Topped with Roast Garlic & Tomatoes
Grilled Chicken Breast Topped with a Wild Mushroom Sauce
Passion Fruit Mousse
Mmmmmm Mousse. If that doesn't sound good to you, you don't know what good sounds like.
Tickets are $37 for dinner/show and $20 for show. Doors open at 7pm for dinner and 8pm for the show. Tickets are available on line, or at our regular outlets -- Tom Jones Drugs, Stringfellows Music, and Roberts Piano Company.
One last thing. E.C. Glass's Stage Band presented a tremendous show to a sold-out audience Saturday at The Ellington. They treated the audience to two sets of great music that ranged from Weather Report's Birdland to their own very funky arrangement of The Theme From Super Mario Brothers. It's great to know that virtuosity and good taste are safe for a while longer. They'll be back.
Concord's own saxphone titan Frank Coffey was the guest artist. He treated the sold out audience to a number of tunes including his fine arrangement of Secret Love and his signature show stopping two horn version of Night Train. It's always a thrill to hear Frank blow. Don't let a chance to see him slip by.
See you at The Ellington !
