If your New Year's resolution was to find a new guitar hero...

You’re in luck!

About a year ago an old friend of the Ellington’s called me and said “Dad, I just heard the best blues rock guitarist you can imagine, you’ve got to get him for the Ellington.” Well, our friend is a young man with impecable taste, but we don’t take anyone’s word for anything. So, the first chance we got it was down to Nashville where we heard the incredible Dean Hall perform twice. Once as part of the Muzik Mafia and once with his own band. Good god almighty the man can tear it up, put it back together, and tear it up again before he’s even warmed up. Dean Hall was made for the Ellington and the Ellington was made for Dean Hall.

Let’s cut to the chase: Dean will be here on Saturday, January 22nd. Tickets are in the outlets and available on line. We’ll let you know more about Dean next week, but in the mean time check out his website at http://www.deanhall.com. (Rumor has it Dean is bringing along a hot young tenor sax player with roots in the Hill City.)

The fine folks at Brown Edwards and at Montague Betts are sponsoring this show. Their generosity and support help make Lynchburg a great place to live. Gotta love ‘em

Chef Val Bolling with ACES Catering has an awesome blues rock buffet planned too. Check this out:
Roast Pork Loin Topped with Currants and Leeks
Pan-fried Catfish Topped with Shreveport Stewed Tomatoes
Pan-seared Chicken Breast with Sweet Peppers & Sassafras Sauce
Bourbon Caramelized Bananas Topped with Lemon Cream

Actually, the real reason we’re writing is to remind you that this Friday is an Ellington Friday. We’ve got some of Lynchburg’s favorite rockers, The Groove Monkeys, coming and no matter which side of the evolution/creationism debate you’re on you’ll dig these simian cousins.

We’ll be on Good Morning Virginia this Friday giving away a four pack of tickets.

One last thing -- Our Angel Tree was a great success. Board member Denise Kirby organized the effort and reports we were able to help 25 less fortunate senior citizens have a Merry Christmas. Good work.

See you at the Ellington!
